Back in June of 2014, Seth Rollins had just betrayed The Shield, and the three members began forging their own identities away from the group. On June 16th, we saw Dean arrive for the first time in simple jeans and a t shirt, with his own theme music. He charged the ring, going after Seth Rollins who beat a hasty retreat, and ended up facing Wade Barrett in his first solo match as a singles competitor. Later on in the night he’d continue his assault on Rollins, but this throwback we watch him take on Wade Barrett one on one, and get a taste of the things to come in his singles career.

Many would say Jimmy Jacobs and Jon Moxley are cut from the same cloth, with a similar vicious style of nothing but relentless attack, and a never quit attitude, the pair have brawled across Dragon Gate USA and Insanity Pro Wrestling on numerous occasions. Jon himself citing some of his matches with Jimmy as his favorites in terms of psychology, dragging the audience in to the match by their throats and not letting go as they used a mix of outright brutality and technical prowess to make their matches something really special.

Showdown In Naptown was to be Moxley’s final match with Insanity Pro, as he signed with WWE and moved on to Florida. It’s no real surprise he chose Jimmy as one of his final indie opponents, having been one of his most notable rivalries over the years. In this match, Jon would pass the IPW Heavyweight Championship over to Jacobs and bid the company farewell, and one hell of a match it was! By far the most bloodthirsty and brutal of their matches, ‘Showdown’ was most certainly the appropriate word.

The match was a Moxley specialty, a Dog Collar match (he always seems to thrive in those) and the pace from the outset was vicious and furious, with Jimmy attacking before he could even have the collar attached. He instantly set out to brutalize Moxley, strangling him with the chain and battering him with it repeatedly before finally having it fixed to his own neck. From there, Moxley turned the tides and pulled out a favorite trick, hanging Jimmy over the top rope by his throat before dumping him to the outside. Once outside, the action took on a life of it’s own a they brawled around the arena, resulting in Jon being badly busted open on the ringpost before re-entering the ring. Bleeding like the proverbial stuck pig, Jimmy went after the wound with his railroad spike and assaulted Jon with everything he had, but it wasnt enough to put him down. With a sickly grin on his face Moxley repeatedly flummoxed Jimmy’s attempts to choke him out and went on to strike Jimmy with his own series of finishers. But it was Jimmy’s night, kicking out from each and continuing his relentless assault on the heavily bleeding Jon. Eventually, Jimmy was able to render Moxley unconscious with his Guillotine choke. Taking the title, and ridding IPW of the scourge of Jon Moxley for good.

This was a fantastic, if bloody and violent match. Another perfect send off that showcased both men and their talents wonderfully. Most certainly the stand out of his matches with Jimmy, if you’re going to pick up just one, make it this one!

SouthernViolence Highlights by deanambrosenet
Highlight Video: WARNING Bloody

I’m a huge fan of CZW and it was through this particular promotion I was introduced to the crazy world of Jon Moxley, leading me toward becoming the fan I am today and in turn opening my eyes to the world of other great promotions such as HWA and DGUSA to name just a couple. But of all the CZW DVD Events out there and all the great matches Mox has had, this one has always stuck in my head as one of the most exciting. It’s strange, because technically this particular show shouldnt have been as good as it was. CZW left the chaos of the cities and headed out to the country, North Carolina to be exact. Taking place in, where else, a Fairground! In front of a crowd of literally a handful of people, even Moxley himself was quoted as saying he had zero hopes for this event and it had been plagued by problems from the get go. With the original Main Event scrapped due to someone not being able to make it, the closing bout turned in to Champion Jon Moxley facing off against long time Nemesis Nic Gage and the fabulous Drake Younger in an Ultraviolent three way dance.
