Earning high praise from independent companies around the world, he became a household name for the hardcore, holding championship gold in companies such as Combat Zone Wrestling. With his name capturing the attention of wrestling fans across the globe, Jon soon earned a developmental contract with the WWE. He then took on the name of Dean Ambrose and began the process of cementing his name in stone. Feuding with William Regal and Seth Rollins most notably on NXT, Ambrose went on to make his much anticipated main roster debut at Survivor Series 2012, coming in alongside Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns to make a massive impact in the main event, aiding CM Punk in retaining his WWE Championship. The Shield tore an unstoppable path through the WWE for over a year before going their separate ways and into singles competition. Dean first went after Shield traitor Seth Rollins for revenge, and then on to win Intercontinental and WWE World Heavyweight Gold. Described as “Fearless, wild and always unpredictable” as well as a “world class competitor and infamous troublemaker” – Dean Ambrose is the star to watch!

WWE.com have a major article up on their site covering Dean’s career so far, spanning time before he entered the WWE as well. It’s definitely worth a read!

Oh look, there’s Dean Ambrose, right in the middle of a bombed-out wrestling ring set up in some nondescript Northeastern field. Could be Pennsylvania, but who knows: Civilization is nowhere to be found in any sense of the word. Glass, barbed wire, a cheeseburger deluxe and spots of red pepper the scene — the remnants of a 15-minute bar fight posing as a wrestling match, while a sparse but energetic crowd foams at the mouth for the carnage to continue. You half expect Caesar to appear and give the thumbs-down at any given moment.

The Lunatic Fringe himself — his face already looking like he went bobbing for apples in a can of red paint — is currently experiencing the most uniquely traumatic of head injuries following an assault by electric saw. The crowd goes nuts as it happens, and Ambrose jolts to his feet when the deed is done, limbs flailing like he’s been struck by lightning. A few moments later, a dazed Ambrose will be forced to his knees and suffer a second attack from the saw. He’ll win in a few minutes with a roll-up that seems incredibly underwhelming given all that preceded it and he’ll stumble through the grass in search of an ambulance or makeshift triage unit, whichever he finds first, leaving a trail of crimson in his ungainly wake. And it’s only his first match of the day. And, it’s not even the worst thing that’s happened to him.

“[There was one match] where I literally started doing the mathematical equation of like, ‘I’m bleeding way too fast and I have another 15 minutes or so left in this match, and at this rate I will probably pass out and I might die, so I better hurry up and get this match over with,” said Ambrose to WWE.com.

I was a little bored of regular old wrestling.A mere three years before he’d appear on the scene in WWE, matches like this were a typical day at the office for The Lunatic Fringe. One of the last — and, potentially, most notorious — deathmatch veterans still standing, Ambrose came to WWE by way of a path of destruction usually reserved for Biblical plagues or one-man wrecking crews.

There are, to be perfectly honest, a lot of genuinely unsettling things about this part of the Dean Ambrose story. But perhaps the most disquieting aspect is that Ambrose — trained at the reputable Heartland Wrestling Association in Cincinnati — didn’t need to do any of it. He had the tools, he had the skills, and if he wanted to, had the opportunity to avoid rolling around in barbed wire for $20 a night — a practice he refers to in conversation as “that” or “all that” — a free hot dog and a piece of the merch stand.

So why, Dean Ambrose, did you do it?

“I was a little bored of regular old wrestling,” said Ambrose. “I started dabbling my foot in that because I was bored.”

RFVideo have released a new DVD featuring Jon’s best matches from perhaps his most notorious promotion, Combat Zone Wrestling. CZW is where he cemented his name in the indies and was the promotion to catapult him to future stardom. You can see 16 of his matches including bouts against Sami Callihan (Now Solomon Crowe in NXT), Robert Anthony and Drake Younger to name just a few. As a long time CZW fan I’m all but gushing over this set as every match is a gem, make sure you add it to your collection asap, you’re missing out if you don’t!

P.S. If you’re unable to order, don’t worry. We’ll be giving away copies of the DVD in December!

SouthernViolence Highlights by deanambrosenet
Highlight Video: WARNING Bloody

I’m a huge fan of CZW and it was through this particular promotion I was introduced to the crazy world of Jon Moxley, leading me toward becoming the fan I am today and in turn opening my eyes to the world of other great promotions such as HWA and DGUSA to name just a couple. But of all the CZW DVD Events out there and all the great matches Mox has had, this one has always stuck in my head as one of the most exciting. It’s strange, because technically this particular show shouldnt have been as good as it was. CZW left the chaos of the cities and headed out to the country, North Carolina to be exact. Taking place in, where else, a Fairground! In front of a crowd of literally a handful of people, even Moxley himself was quoted as saying he had zero hopes for this event and it had been plagued by problems from the get go. With the original Main Event scrapped due to someone not being able to make it, the closing bout turned in to Champion Jon Moxley facing off against long time Nemesis Nic Gage and the fabulous Drake Younger in an Ultraviolent three way dance.
