After the tragic loss of the Tag Team Championships from The Shields title collection, Dean Ambrose faced stiff odds heading in to Main Event and a WWE Poll that revealed the ‘Universe’ thought his United States Championship was in serious jeopardy too. Well he’s always been one to defy the odds if you’ve followed his career, tonight would be no different. He heads to the ring like a lone wolf, his Shield cohorts Rollins and Reigns mysteriously absent and not accompanying him on to the stairs like they normally do. Ambrose remained cocky and defiant however, stepping in to the ring and getting in Dolph Zigglers face. Dolph was quick off the bat and instantly hit Ambrose with a dropkick and made a pin attempt which a stunned Dean barely kicked out of. Another pin attempt from Dolph and Ambrose was officially annoyed. Taking the ‘Show Off’ down to the mat and down to his level, Ambrose controlled the pace and grounded Dolph for the first half of the match, but things would soon spiral out of control as both men tore in to each other for the gold. A series of near misses brought Dolph so close to the Championship he and everybody in the crowd could probably taste it, but even with a ‘Famouser’.. Ambrose wasn’t to be counted out.

In the end – and with no help whatsoever from Rollins and Reigns who remained nowhere to be seen, hmm – Ambrose was able to hit Ziggler with his Headlock Driver and retain his United States Championship. Now the only gold holder in The Shield, his cohorts didn’t even come out to celebrate with him. Is this a sign of discontent within the unit? Or are Rollins and Reigns too busy licking their wounds?

Or maybe that’s just what they want you to think.

A promo that was aired during European WWE Show ‘Afterburn’ this past September. I should be able to get hold of it without the subtitles soon but the site I usually download from is down tonight. I’ll have it subtitleless (I hope) asap. Screencaptures in the Gallery!

It’s announced early in the night on RAW that Rollins and Reigns would be defending their Tag Team Championships against Cody Rhodes and Goldust in the shows main event. Later on in the night we’re taken to backstage to find The Shield in strategy talks over their match, only to be confronted by Stephanie and Triple H who inform them the match will be no disqualification – it’s time to get the job done without any excuses. Ambrose, Reigns and Rollins laugh this off, they got this one in the bag. Or do they?

The match is fast paced and vicious from the outset and despite the odd small interjection by Ambrose, for the most part he keeps to himself on the outside and just cheers on his partners. His faith in the team showing through. Rollins and Reigns isolate Cody and toy with him in their corner but eventually Cody is able to make a flying leap to his brother and get the tag. Goldust comes in all guns blazing and proves to be more than Rollins and Reigns bargained for, until a well timed dodge from Rollins sends Goldust crashing to the outside. Ambrose stands over him and taunts before Cody comes to his aid and the show heads to a commercial. Back from that and The Shield once again have control of Goldust, but things soon begin to break down as tempers flare after numerous near falls.

Pure mayhem ensues as Cody and Rollins fight on the outside and Ambrose brawls with Goldust, eventually finding himself tossed to the outside, Reigns goes after Goldust again and things collapse to the outside. Ambrose draws Goldusts attention and with him distracted, Reigns charges and spears him through the barricade! It looks like it’s game over for the Rhodes boys until the sudden arrival of the fired Big Show through the crowd! Ambrose grabs a chair and attempts to stave off the giant but finds himself knocked out. Rollins flies over the ropes and straight in to a KO punch. Reigns in the ring dodges a kick from Cody but ends up with Big Shows fist in his face also! Staggering back, reigns flops to the mat unconscious and Cody makes the pin. New Tag Team Champions.

The Shield taste their bitterest defeat yet as Big Show bolts through the crowd and Triple H storms down to the ring, furious. With Ambrose defending his title on Wednesday, will he suffer the same fate? Dark times for the Hounds of Justice indeed.

Another RAW and another 6 Man Tag match for The Shield and coming in off of their loss at Battleground, they get a chance at redemption as they go up against Goldust, Cody Rhodes and Daniel Bryan in the shows Main Event (and man that’s a long time to wait!). Of course, Triple H is on hand to make sure things go according to ‘whats best for business’ and he plants himself at ringside as things get underway. Rollins starting things out against Goldust, he mocks the Bizarre One and earns himself a swift slap in the face. Goldust taking it to Rollins and perhaps catching him off guard! Rollins makes a swift escape and hands the reins over to Ambrose who ends up going toe to toe with Cody Rhodes. The pair a good match for one another neither gets the upper hand until Cody goes for a moonsault from the top turnbuckle and a playing possum Ambrose leaps to his feet and shoves him from them to the outside.

This swings the momentum in The Shields favor and it’s eventually down to Daniel Bryan to try and save the day for the so called good guys. With Goldust and Cody taking out Ambrose and Reigns, Rollins finds himself twisted up in the No/Yes/Whatever lock and on the verge of tapping when Ambrose bolts in to the ring to break things up with a chair. The referee instantly disqualifies him and the other team are about to be handed the win when Triple H interrupts, saying it’s not going to end like that, re-start the match.

However as things get underway once more, the sudden intervention of Randy Orton hitting Daniel Bryan with an RKO from out of nowhere, leaves Rollins to pick up the pieces and pick up the win for The Shield. With the men in black celebrating victory, Triple H gives the nod for them to destroy their opponents. The pack of dogs picking apart Bryan, Cody and Goldust when they’re interrupted by the Big Show – who was fired earlier in the evening by Stephanie McMahon! Triple H takes refuge behind The Shield and Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns attack the Giant to little avail, almost subduing him, Triple H orders them to finish him but instead Big Show tosses Ambrose and co aside, and knocks out the CEO!

Uh oh.

Despite not having a match of his own tonight, Ambrose was on hand to be in The Shields corner for their Tag Team match against the Rhodes brothers as their father, Dusty Rhodes. It was an emotionally charged match from the outset as Cody and Goldust fought to regain their jobs in the non title bout. Rollins and Reigns as fierce as ever even without the gold on the line. On the outside Ambrose repeatedly taunted and cajoled Dusty Rhodes, calling him an old man and telling him to go home. He was also on hand for some choice poisonous barbs directed at both Cody and Goldust as Rollins and Reigns controlled the outset of the matchup and cornered Cody.

Cody was eventually able to tag out to Goldust however and the arena all but exploded, getting behind the veteran much to The Shields chagrin. Rollins dodged a crossbody from Goldust and he ended up toppling to the outside where Ambrose threatened to attack, but Dusty and Cody fended him off and Goldust was able to get back in to the ring by the count of 9.

As things broke down in to the usual Shield melee, Ambrose found himself face to face with Dusty Rhodes once more, and on the receiving end of a Bionic Elbow! The American Dream whipped off his belt and struck Dean in the face with it, then threatened to whip him all the way up the ramp. Reigns attempted a save for Ambrose but Goldust thwarted that attack while in the ring, Cody hit Rollins with the CrossRhodes and picked up a crowd pleasing win for the family.

But I doubt Triple H and Stephanie will be so pleased about having to give them their jobs back. Will Ambrose and The Shield pay the price?

SmackDown’s 4-on-1 Handicap Match main event descended into chaos when all three members of The Shield joined Randy Orton in swarming The World’s Largest Athlete. The match ended in a Disqualification win for Big Show when Dean Ambrose brought a chair to the fight. Though the giant was able to deliver a KO Punch and remove it from Ambrose’s clutches, a Roman Reigns spear finally brought him down.

The Shield and Orton refused to cease their relentless assault after the bell, though, until The Usos emerged from the back to even the odds! And when The Viper set up a chair on the downed giant’s head, looking to do further damage, Daniel Bryan flew down the ramp and took the Friday night fight to Orton, snapping in the “Yes!” Lock before Ambrose could open the door for The Viper to slither away.

But a running knee to the U.S. Champion’s head put down the leader of The Shield and sent all four opposing Superstars fleeing from the ring. Will Daniel Bryan have the same kind of success at WWE Battleground?
