It’s that time of year again and the PWI Top 500 list has been released. Last year after he found himself spending half the year in a bit of a holding pattern in FCW/NXT, Ambrose clocked in at #253. Well this year he’s made a significant leap, coming in the highest of his Shield faction at a very respectable #26! A massive leap but he’s had one of the strongest years of anyone in recent memory, below is what they have to say!

After Dolph Ziggler made some ill advised derogatory comments about Triple H on WWE.com, he was sentenced to a three on one handicap match against The Shield on RAW by devious GM Brad Maddox. But Dolph didn’t appear too phased as he marched to his doom. The Shield confronting him (complete with brand new embroidery on their gear, though Deans could use some re-placement!). It was Ambrose and Ziggler to start things out, a match up many of us have wanted to see for a long time and this was something of a teaser of what they could really bring us in the future. The two cautiously felt each other out with a trade of holds and attempted sleepers before Ambrose backed to his corner and tagged in Rollins.

Ziggler held his own against the trio and despite their usual tactic of fast tags in an attempt to keep Ziggler disoriented, it seemed as though they may just suffer a shocking defeat at the hands of the Show Off. But the numbers game as always won out and a devastating mid air spear from Reigns put the nail in Zigglers punishment coffin.

Ambrose returned to the ring with Rollins and the three finished Ziggler off with their trademark Triple Powerbomb. A surprising no show from RVD, Big Show or Mark Henry, but Ambrose and Ziggler is future money.

Later on in the night The Shield were called to action once again by Maddox as apparently The Big Show had also made some unflattering comments about Triple H on WWE.com. Big Show was sentenced to a three on one handicap with all members of The Shield in the ring at once. Despite taking a tumble on his knee earlier in the night Rollins seemed to be in fighting spirit as the Trio took on the Giant. Big Show immediately went after Reigns, taking out the power of the group and leaving Ambrose and Rollins to try and find a way to cut the Giant down. Despite being thwarted at almost every turn, Ambrose and Rollins were relentless and just kept coming, cutting Big Show down eventually. Once Reigns was back in the ring, they hit Show with their Triple Powerbomb and all three of them pinned him for the three count. Justice served.

Later on in the night The Shield were called upon again, this time to serve as a literal Shield for the McMahons, Triple H and Randy Orton as they addressed the crowd and their actions at Summerslam. As Triple H called out the browbeaten Daniel Bryan, Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns were ordered to let him past but of course this was a bluff and The Shield attacked as soon as Bryan came near. Daniel fought back bravely but was soon set up for the Triple Powerbomb. However on Triple H’s order, they released Daniel and he was allowed in to the ring, only to receive an RKO from Randy Orton. It might not be justice.. but like they said, Justice isn’t free.

Ambrose headed in to a hot arena with his usual cocky swagger to face the over the hill and past it Rob Van Dam. The match started out slowly with the two getting a feel for each other and trading back and forth moves without either getting an advantage, however the action soon picked up and Dean took control with his usual down and dirty brawler style. Grounding the high flying Rob and keeping him on the mat as well as attempting a handful of pinfalls.

Van Dam however made a comeback with his trademark kicks and seemed to have Ambrose on the run, the crowd breaking in to heated chants in support of both men. Just as it looked like Ambrose may well be on the losing end of the match up, his brothers in arms Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns made their appearance, stopping Rob before he could hit his Frog Splash. But Mark Henry and the Big Show weren’t far behind, evening things up before a brief commercial break.

Upon returning from that we find Ambrose in control of RVD but not for long, RVD taking Ambrose out on the outside and setting him up on the guard rail for a vicious spinning kick off of the apron. RVD tossed Ambrose back in to the ring and despite a comeback from Ambrose seeing an attempted pinfall thanks to a distraction from Rollins, RVD eventually seemed to have the match all sewn up, hitting his Frog Splash on Ambrose and about to go for a pin when Reigns hit RVD with his deadly spear. The referee spotted it however and promptly disqualified Ambrose. He may have lost the match, but the gold stays around his waist and thats what matters. Clever thinking as always from the devious Trio. Making a hasty retreat as Big Show, Henry and RVD swing for retribution and find none.

Aww, shame. Psht.

On Monday Rob Van Dam because the new #1 Contender to Dean’s United States Championship and in preparation for their match at Summerslam on the Kickoff show, they get a chance to face off on Smackdown tonight in a 6 Man tag match including the Big Show and Mark Henry. The Big Show claims he has unfinished business with The Shield and is returning to destroy them, while Mark Henry declares theyre going to need a shield to protect them from whats coming. Boys, boys.. please. You can’t all be humiliated by Ambrose and Co at once. Form an orderly cue.

The Six Man Tag is typically fast paced and The Shield quickly isolate Van Damn, keeping the big men out of the ring and taking turns brutalizing the high flying superstar. However a well placed kick to the head of Reigns sees Van Dam able to tag out to Big Show and it all goes downhill. Ambrose is tagged in and almost gets decapitated by the Giant, until Reigns tugs the ropes down as Show hits them, sending him tumbling over to the outside. The referee begins to count Show out but Mark Henry attacks Reigns, throwing him over the announce table. Rollins hurls himself over the top rope and takes out Henry and himself and somehow Big Show struggles back in to the ring at the count of 9, much to Dean’s chagrin. Dean goes after him but is hit by the deadly Knockout punch, Van Dam finishes things out with his patented Frog Splash, Ambrose pinned for the three count.

Um.

Back to the drawing board guys.
