Dean recently spoke to GuideLive.Com in Dallas, Texas about the live event in Arlington Texas, where he spoke about live events vs TV, teaming with Seth again, what it’s like being in the ring with someone like Braun Strowman and more. Below is the full interview, you can also view the original article here

What’s different about performing a mid-week ‘WWE Live’ show as opposed to an episode of Raw or Smackdown on TV?
Ambrose: I live for the house shows. It’s more of an intimate experience because every one is a little bit different. It’s only going to happen that one time in the arena for that audience.

The live events are what I dreamed of when I wanted to be a wrestler as a kid. There’s a lot less restrictions, time constraints, commercials. There’s no somebody standing out there with a microphone, talking for 20 minutes, driving you crazy. There’s no commercial breaks. There’s no ads popping up on the screen. It’s just, straight up, a night of pro wrestling – WWE style. … The live events are my personal favorite type of show we have. It’s not something you want to miss.

The show at College Park is just a few miles away from the site of WrestleMania 32 (AT&T Stadium). What do you remember about that event?

Ambrose: It was really wild, man. The best way I can describe WrestleMania is just ‘surreal.’
I remember pulling up to that stadium, in particular, seeing the 200-foot picture of my face plastered on there – my brain can’t even process that it was so weird. And when you walk out in front of 100,000 people, your brain can’t comprehend that big of an audience – at least mine can’t.
It doesn’t really feel any different once you’re in the ring. Once you’re in the ring, it’s like you’re in the eye of the storm. There’s nothing really outside of the first couple of rows of people you can see. But the sound is different because there’s 100,000 people there, it’s like this giant, vacuumous, weird sound. It’s very strange.
You build up to it all year, and then it’s over so quick. It’s very surreal. I’ve wrestled in front of as little as like ten people or less when I first started … and that’s a lot more awkward than wrestling in front of 100,000 people.

You’ve rejoined former Shield partner Seth Rollins in this current title run, what has it been like being back together?

Ambrose: We’re having a lot of fun, I’ve got to tell you, the last two PPVs – “No Mercy’ and ‘SummerSlam’ – been very, very happy with the matches we’ve had with Cesaro and Sheamus, who are also a great team. Probably underrated. They’re No. 2 to us, of course, but we’ve been having some great matches.
The thing about me and Seth Rollins, we take our reputation as former partners in The Shield – we have a certain standard when it comes to tag team wrestling. Our thing was the second you put us together, we instantly become the best tag team in the world and we have to live up to that every single night. That’s how we got our start. That’s how we got to where we are just by having kick-ass matches every night.

Any tag teams in WWE you’re wanting to go head-to-head with?

Ambrose: I really appreciate the experience of getting to work with Cesaro and Sheamus. They’re just a great team. But also, I really have enjoyed the time we’ve got to be in the ring with [Karl] Anderson and [Luke] Gallows, The Club. I think this is going to be a good year for them. I think they’re really going to start catching on with the audience, come into their own as a team. They’re an excellent couple of wrestlers … Karl Anderson is a guy I’ve known since I was probably 18, and I think the first time I wrestled him was here in WWE. Really enjoyed it. I hope we get to have more matches with The Club.

On his ‘No Mercy’ match which saw two of Cesaro’s front teeth pushed ‘3 to 4 mm’ into his upper jaw after an in-ring maneuver…

Ambrose: I didn’t know that his teeth were busted out until after the match. I saw his face after the match backstage. I thought he just bit his lip or had a little, tiny cut, a little bit of blood … The thing is, we’re so safety conscious, and in WWE they really go out of their way to protect us as athletes. If they think we’re hurt, they’re going to try to stop the match no matter how much we’re telling them we want to continue. … But thankfully, the referee got it under control, got the blood stopped, and then you just keep going.
Cesaro, I know, would have never for one second want to stop the match and go get his teeth fixed because we’re just wired differently as athletes. Compared to like NFL, NBA players and so forth, those guys are pansies, sorry, we do this 365 days a year. We voluntarily beat each other up for a living. Nobody does the schedule that we do on the pace that we do. We’re just machines, professional wrestlers as a whole. Just another day at the office.

On wrestling somebody like 6’8″, 385-pound (listed) Braun Strowman…

Ambrose: If you’ve ever been a little kid at the zoo, and they let you ride the elephant…what’s the biggest thing you can think of that you would climb up on when you’re a little kid? It’s like that. You’re literally a child when you’re in there, it’s foolish, he just picks me up like I’m Jiminy Cricket and I can’t do anything about it.
That’s the fun thing about WWE, we’ve got all shapes and sizes. To think I can get in there with smaller, athletic guys and try to keep up, but then sometimes you’ve got to get in there with big dinosaurs. I feel like, more often than not, I’m in there with big dinosaurs – the story of my life. Just walking around, all 6’2″ of me, and just walking around all these giant behemoths, pretty much just trying not to get stepped on. It’s like I’m living in Jurassic Park.

A sobering start to RAW this week, as the Superstars pay tribute to the victims of the horrific attack in Las Vegas, the City Dean chose to call home. You can find out more about how help out in the wake of the tragedy Here

RAW got underway with Seth Rollins facing the monster Braun Strowman, and just like Dean last week, Seth was unable to overcome this particular mountain. However, when Strowman threatened to take things beyond the three count, Dean intervened. Racing down to the ring to aid Rollins and viciously attacking Strowman. It wasn’t enough though, as Strowman caught Dean in mid air and subjected him to two chokeslams and a powerbomb, before leaving both of the Tag Team Champions down in the middle of the ring. That wasn’t to be the end of it either, as Cesaro and Sheamus made their way down to the ring to pick the bones, so to speak. Hitting Dean and Seth with their respective finishers… and lighting a fuse.

A fuse set to ignite next week, if the closing moments of RAW are anything to go by. Roman Reigns lost his opportunity at the Intercontinental Championship as Cesaro and Sheamus once again inserted themselves where they don’t belong, and dragged Roman out of the ring mid match. Cesaro, Sheamus and The Miz would go on to mock The Shield, hitting Roman with a Triple Powerbomb – The Shields calling card – and then standing over him with fists together, another ode to The Shield. As RAW came to a close, Dean found Roman backstage and the two were soon joined by Seth. No words spoken, but none were needed. Next week RAW is in Indianapolis, where The Shield made their initial debut, and also where they imploded. A significant city for the trio, next week should be explosive!

Seth Rollins talked the talk, and he walked the walk … until Braun Strowman put him in the ground. The Kingslayer’s plan to defy expectations by challenging Strowman ended in the same familiar fashion as The Monster Among Men’s other conquests — Running Powerslam, 1-2-3 — though not before the Raw Tag Team Champion landed some impressive maneuvers of his own after a brief brawl outside the ring.

Nonetheless, not only did Strowman prevail, he quickly went to work on his foe after the bell. Rollins received some post-match reinforcement in the form of his tag team partner, Dean Ambrose, but Strowman made quick work of The Lunatic Fringe as well. Adding insult to injury, Cesaro & Sheamus resurfaced to inflict some more punishment on the Raw Tag Team Champions in the form of a Neutralizer to Ambrose and a Brogue Kick to Rollins. If nothing else, “The Bar” will not be cleared so easily.

After Roman Reigns suffered a 3-on-1 beatdown at the hands of Intercontinental Champion The Miz, Cesaro & Sheamus, he received a visit from Raw Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose, marking the first time the former members of The Shield have stood united in three years. Have The Hounds of Justice returned?

There’s fearless and then theres Dean Ambrose. Something proven tonight as Dean answers the challenge of the monster Braun Strowman, directly after seeing him decimate Curt Hawkins. Still, all in a days work for Dean and hey, it keeps life interesting, right? He takes the fight to Braun and uses his speed to run rings around him, however when he finally collides with the wall, it’s not a pretty sight. Dean endures as Braun tries to physically wrench Dean’s arm from its socket, and manhandle him like a sack of fruit. And as always his tolerance for pain works in his favor, taking what Braun has to throw at him and then firing back. He uses the guard rail and the ringpost to launch a retaliation against Braun, and then keeps the momentum with his suicide dive which, while Braun catches him, he turns into a vicious DDT. Ambrose always thinks on his feet. He tries for a countout victory but as Braun crawls back into the ring, Dean’s swinging punches again, and heads for the top turnbuckle. Unfortunately, when Braun catches him off of his flying elbow, it’s turned into a power slam Dean doesn’t manage to kick out from. But it was a valiant effort and whats life without risks?

Later on Seth Rollins brings him some ice for his shoulder and suggests he maybe cut back on the crazy, impulsive decisions for a bit. At least while he’s a tag team champion. Dean suggests maybe Seth needs to think less and be more impulsive. So Seth decides he’ll challenge Braun to a match next week. For now, he has to go fight Sheamus. Dean admits challenging Braun was a bad idea.. but only after Seth has gone.

Also during the night, The Miztourage assaulted Roman Reigns viciously with chairs, and then stole The Shields old three way fist bump pose. I’m sure this isn’t an insult that will go unanswered. Here’s what WWE.com had to say!

Braun Strowman def. Raw Tag Team Champion Dean Ambrose
Being a lunatic certainly has its advantages. Unpredictability, fearlessness and a pretty solid win-loss record, to name a few. That said, whatever voice in Dean Ambrose’s head compelled him to fight Braun Strowman on Raw certainly didn’t do the Raw Tag Team Champion any long-term favors, despite an impressive, if fruitless, effort by The Lunatic Fringe against The Monster Among Men.

Going into this match, the best Ambrose probably could have hoped for was that he didn’t lose any teeth. Instead, he shocked everyone by giving Strowman a true-blue fight, sticking, moving and using an impressive combo of submissions, recklessness and chicanery (nice thumb to the eye) to get within arm’s length of victory.

Alas, The Monster Among Men still got the win by reversing Ambrose’s standing elbow drop into the devastating Running Powerslam. Even Ambrose’s partner, Seth Rollins, was unnerved that his buddy’s unpredictability put him and their title reign in danger. Ambrose’s counter that Rollins’ decision-making was a little too by-the-numbers led The Kingslayer to do something even he didn’t see coming: Seek out a match with Strowman for next week.

A hard fought and definitely bloody victory for Dean and Seth tonight, as they defeat ‘The Bar’ Cesaro and Sheamus by the skin of Cesaro’s teeth – we’re not kidding. Both teams brought their A Game in the show stealing match of the night, and despite the best attempts of Cesaro and Sheamus to put Dean down, they weren’t able. He battled through sharpshooters and crossfaces and having Seth Rollins Power Bombed on top of him, to eventually hit Dirty Deeds off of Rollins’ high knee and take the win – and the championships – back home. Here’s what WWE.com had to say!

Raw Tag Team Champions Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins def. Cesaro & Sheamus
Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins didn’t just set the bar. They cleared “The Bar.”

The reigning Raw Tag Team Champions extended their once-unfathomable union a little longer by fending off Cesaro & Sheamus, who had been claiming for weeks that the former Shield-mates would only work together up to a certain point. Some shenanigans on Monday proved the champs weren’t beyond losing a match, and they certainly weren’t without their hiccups at WWE No Mercy either, but they didn’t compete like a team whose chemistry had an expiration date.

If anything did put the champions at a disadvantage, it was the rabid opening spurt from Ambrose, who literally came out swinging and was repaid in kind by Cesaro, who Cesaro Swung him straight into the steel steps. The ensuing shoulder injury nearly doomed The Lunatic Fringe before the match began; The Swiss Cyborg brutalized him to such a degree that it seemed as though referee John Cone was about to throw hands against the challenger himself.

To Cone’s relief, Cesaro quickly tagged out, but the appearance of Sheamus provided no such respite for The Lunatic Fringe. The challengers quickly alternated between Cesaro’s joint manipulation and Sheamus’ blunt-force clubberin’, but Ambrose found daylight by sling-shotting Cesaro into the turnbuckle with such pinpoint accuracy he knocked out both of The King of Swing’s front teeth.

The Celtic Warrior made sure the change of fortune was short-lived, delivering three consecutive Irish Curses to Rollins while Cesaro recuperated outside the ring. The challengers teed off on Rollins in increasingly ruthless fashion — Cone had to calm them down once again — until Ambrose tagged in against Sheamus and proceeded to withstand one of the most hellacious beatings ever laid on a Superstar, including a particularly gruesome sequence in which Cesaro powerbombed Rollins onto The Lunatic Fringe from off the top rope.

With The Kingslayer reduced to a writhing mess on the apron, Cesaro tagged in Sheamus and held Rollins in the ropes to witness what would be the final Brogue Kick — and then Ambrose collapsed before Sheamus could make landfall. Of course, Ambrose turned out to be playing possum, and while his small-package attempt on Sheamus didn’t quite get the job done, Rollins managed to throw off an attempted interference by Cesaro long enough to feed him into another Brogue Kick meant for The Lunatic Fringe. One combo of Rollins’ ripcord knee and Ambrose’s Dirty Deeds later, Sheamus suffered the pinfall.

Give credit where it is due: Cesaro & Sheamus can and should hold their heads high in defeat. But the night belongs to Ambrose & Rollins. Not only did they prove their reconciliation is for real, they showed their status as champions isn’t going away anytime soon. It’s the elusive run that has both legs and teeth — so to speak.

Hot on the heels of a busy Australia and New Zealand tour, Dean crashes onto Monday Night RAW. Responding to a callout from Cesaro and Sheamus who taunt the Tag Team Champions, labelling them nothing more than a ‘Nostalgia act’. Rollins and Dean respond, questioning if they’re the nostalgia act when Cesaro and Sheamus look like something dredged up out of an 80’s movie. Dean says a good brother wouldn’t let his brother leave the house looking like Sheamus does, and he has a point. This is interrupted by Gallows and Anderson, who think everybody in the ring is a ‘bad brother’.. and when it comes to addressing Dean, they make a grave mistake. They call him a nerd. The brawl is on and it’s quickly made into a 3 way tag match. Despite Dean and Seth controlling much of the match, the 3 way tag rules work against Dean in the end, as he hits Dirty Deeds on Anderson, doesn’t acknowledge a blind tag from Sheamus, and finds himself chucked out of the ring so Sheamus can steal the pinfall. A bitter defeat for Dean and Seth, but one they’ll make up for at No Mercy on Sunday. bank on it. Here’s what WWE.com had to say!

Cesaro & Sheamus def. Raw Tag Team Champions Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins and Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson
Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins’ unlikely reunion and Raw Tag Team Title run has held the rest of the division at bay for weeks, but in a confrontation between champions and challengers, Cesaro & Sheamus declared the “nostalgia ride” will only last until the two “brothers” remember they can’t stand each other. Add Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson into the mix and toss ‘em in a Triple Threat, and it turns out “The Bar” might be right to think the champs aren’t as bulletproof as they seem.

Granted, The Architect and The Lunatic Fringe don’t seem to hate each other anymore — the only thing that really sets Ambrose off is being called a nerd — but Ambrose & Rollins made their first significant mistake as a team all the same.

After suffering a Magic Killer and “The Bar’s” spin on a 3D, The Kingslayer finally reached Ambrose, and the champions took everyone out with a pair of synchronized suicide dives. But Sheamus sneakily tagged himself in right before The Lunatic Fringe hit Dirty Deeds on Anderson, tossed Ambrose from the ring and stole the pinfall. Score one for “The Bar,” but they’ll likely need a little more than opportune timing to regain the Raw Tag Team Championship come Sunday.

Dean and team RAW rounded off a 4 date tour of New Zealand and Australia today, a down under jaunt that saw Dean without his tag team partner Seth Rollins. Instead he took part in battle royals for a shot at The Miz and the intercontinental Championship, and subsequent tag team bouts. The results for all shows as follows:

* Jason Jordan won a battle royal to become the new #1 contender to the WWE Intercontinental Title

* WWE Intercontinental Champion The Miz retained over Jason Jordan. Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas interfered but R-Truth and RAW Tag Team Champion Dean Ambrose made the save. RAW General Manager Kurt Angle then made a six-man tag team match.

* Dean Ambrose, R-Truth and Jason Jordan defeated The Miz, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas

While in New Zealand, Dean also took part in a signing at The Hub Hornby in Christchurch. You can check out Digitals and candids from all shows and the signing below!

Dean and Seth head out once again to commentary for Cesaro and Sheamus’ match against Gallows and Anderson, this time Dean’s armed with binoculars and a stopwatch and notepad, for reasons only known to himself. However, he doesn’t get much chance to use any of his equipment as Cesaro and Sheamus bait them into a brawl on the ramp. Proceedings halted, Dean and Seth search out Kurt Angle to demand a match against ‘them’.. when asked which team, they say both of them! Angle says they must find another tag team to join them to make it 4 on 4, and well.. it’s not a hard decision. Enter The Hardy Boyz!

And with a team like that, victory was almost inevitable. The Hardy’s chasing off Cesaro and Sheamus while Dean and Seth work in perfect tandem to take out Gallows and Anderson, with a high knee from Rollins and a Dirty Deeds from Dean. Another victory, taking down The Bar a peg at a time. Here’s what WWE.com had to say!

It’s every tag team for themselves on Team Red. A week after Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson threw down against Cesaro & Sheamus, who are next in line for Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins’ Raw Tag Team Titles, a match was sanctioned between “The Bar” and the good brothers, only it never quite got off the ground after Cesaro & Sheamus got into it with the champs at the commentary table. Gallows & Anderson were quick to join the scuffle, which led to a massive three-way brawl among the teams.

Ambrose & Rollins were game for a match against both tandems, but Raw General Manager Kurt Angle, looking to keep his champions in one piece as WWE No Mercy approaches, offered a compromise instead: Find another team to join them, and they would get to tee off on Cesaro, Sheamus, Gallows and Anderson all they wanted in an Eight-Man Tag Team Match.

Cesaro & Sheamus predicted that, when it came down to it, Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins would turn on each other and cost themselves the Raw Tag Team Titles, but that day didn’t come on Raw. In fact, “The Bar” ironically couldn’t keep their own impromptu alliance together for Team Red’s main-event, an Eight-Man Tag that teamed them, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson against Ambrose, Rollins & The Hardy Boyz.

True, the former champs were initially a well-oiled machine alongside the good brothers, despite fighting them for two straight weeks. They even managed to cut Ambrose off from his allies for almost the entire match. But once Seth Rollins tagged in, all bets were off: The Kingslayer singlehandedly took the fight to both Gallows & Anderson, and a pair of Twists of Fate to The Suntan Biker Man were enough to prompt “The Bar” to call it a day and make their exit.

With Anderson left alone in the ring, a unified one-two of Rollins’ ripcord knee and Ambrose’s Dirty Deeds spelled the end of the match, a display of perfect teamwork that nonetheless didn’t seem to shake “The Bar’s” confidence as their title match nears… at least, not yet.
